More About Lilly the Cat Lady

More About Lilly,
the
Cat Lady of Boulder Creek

A remembrance from a reader, Bonnie Robb:

I was very touched and surprised to see this tribute to Lilly.

As a child in the 70's/early 80's, my parents spent every conceivable moment in Boulder Creek - it was our only vacation spot, and I spent at least 2-3 months total out of every year there (always staying at Merrybrook Lodge).

I loved cats, and was fascinated by Lilly. I was allowed to roam the town pretty freely even at that age, which was really special for me (living in Los Angeles the rest of the time). Lilly was always, unfailingly, kind to me and my family.

In later years, I always remembered to bring a few cans of cat food along with me on vacation to "donate to the cause", as it were. Lilly was an essential part of what made Boulder Creek so special to me - still special.

I only get to B.C once a year or so, now - its awful to grow up - but its a wide spread joke in the family here in L.A. that I was so influenced by Lilly that I can't have enough cats now. I told my husband when we lived in a similar small mountain town here in So. Cal. that she was my role model, and even got a liscence plate frame that said "Cat lady of Crestline" in her honor.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane...not just Lilly, but the castle, the bookstore, Big Basin, Scopazzi's - yep, B.C. is my idea of heaven!

And from marlys beto:

what a nice tribute to such a special lady. i never knew lilly, but when i was a little girl, i remember seeing her at the drinking fountain in front of what was the library next to the firehouse. i still expect to see her standing at that fountain everytime i drive through town.
