It's a requirement of the profession that authors dedicate long hours to writing. Yet, we also have to promote and publicize our work, sign our books for wonderful buyers and fans, and if willing, present workshops on the craft of writing, the business of publication or the state of marigolds under the summer sun. Just kidding about the last. I'm somewhat of a recluse, preferring to do the writing and let the books fend for themselves, but as a business, and writing for a living is a real business, I have to tend to the marketing, promotional and educational side as well. (And sometimes the just for fun stuff.)
