Handling transitions, which are changes, or passages from one form, state, style, or place to another,
can be simple when you know the techniques and the "rules" of usage.
Transitions occur frequently in plot development, and techniques to make them seamless sometimes trip us up.
How well do you know or handle these changes? Take the transitions quiz and test yourself:
A. Transitions denote changes in:
- Place
- Time
- Protagonists
- View point
- Tone or mood
- Pace
- All of the Above
B. Transitions can be scene breaks or chapter breaks:
- True
- False
C. Transitions can be physical, mental, or emotional:
- True
- False
D. Transitions can move the pace from the present to the past or the future by:
- Flashbacks
- Foreshadowing
- Delayed Past Events
- All of the Above
E. Flashbacks and recollections are the same thing:
- True
- False
How did you do?
Transitions can be quick and simple, or longer, more detailed and a bit harder to master.
Transition is like a small bridge spanning a space. Use it to get from one place to another without interrupting forward motion.
